So You’re Building a Home Addition? Things to Keep in MindFebruary 27, 2017
We want all of our valued customers—potential, and existing, to feel like VIC is your partner in crime. Home renovations are stressful, but we hope to mitigate a lot of that stress, as much as possible. There are a few ways that we hope to do that. Today, we focus on one of them. That is- empowering you with the knowledge about home addition to feel like you’re in the drivers seat, for the entire duration of the process. That doesn’t just mean an initial meeting, where we explain what we do and what we can offer you. No, to the VIC Underpinners team, that means that we are with you 100% of the way. We want to offer multiple options, ones that fit your budget and meet your needs. We want to supply you with the resources and the written material to back up our process and our materials. And above all else, we want to supply a 24/7 communications resource so that you never feel like you’re alone. We have no hidden agenda. Our agenda is solely to ensure that you end up with the product that you want.
Today’s post isn’t just about underpinning, or fortifying the foundation of your home. Rather, it’s about things to keep in mind, regardless of whatever home addition you’re considering. So stop stressing, and get excited, because when you’re equipped with the right knowledge, you’re going to make the best decision for your home, for your family, and for you!
SO- things to keep in mind… here we go:
Existing property conditions- this applies especially, to the foundation of your home. What kind of shape is it in? Are there any existing conditions that we should take a look at? These run the gamut, and believe us- we’ve seen it all! This is not to scare you, but rather encourage confidence. Just make sure that you are aware of the current state of the property, so that there are no surprises, down the line.
Materials necessary- This one might sound a bit odd. Why should it matter what materials you’ll need to work with? Our answer is simple- so that you have a full picture of the work that you’re entering into. What are the costs? What is the design aesthetic? Are there any elements that are unnecessary, that we can circumvent? Think of your home addition as a puzzle, we want to know all of the pieces, and exactly how they fit.
City council building restrictions- one of may things that the VIC team can bring to the table, is decades of experience, working with different city and council groups. We have the know-how to have the tricky conversations. We have the know-how to navigate the different rules and stipulations that there are, especially around the underpinning process. It is absolutely imperative, that working with these groups is a part of the process. We always ensure that you’re properly educated in this space.
Obviously there are other elements to home addition that you want to be cognizant of. But with VIC as your partner-in-crime, and these components on your radar, you’re already off to a great start.
